The first title is in the bag, the second is within reach: After the 2:0 victory against Bayer Leverkusen on Wednesday, FC Bayern is in the final of the DFB Cup. Even the opponent raves about the current industry leader in Germany
It was a game in which the Werkself were unable to put up much of a fight against the champions. Bayern dominated from the start, ran the ball and their opponents, and were clearly better even in the less concentrated phases. The shot ratio was 10:0 early on, Bayern literally devoured their opponents and even took the lead in the course of the first half
The fact that it was even a little closer was mainly down to Mark Flekken. The Bayer goalkeeper played very well and thwarted several chances for the record champions. It was only in stoppage time that Luis Díaz made it 2-0, which settled everything
Bayer must acknowledge their clear inferiority
After the game, FC Bayern were naturally delighted to have made it back to Berlin for the cup final after what felt like an eternal drought. The home side, on the other hand, were more satisfied and had to admit that FCB were simply much better on the night

„They deserved to win, there’s no question about that. But we could have made it harder for them. We had a phase in the second half – straight after the break – where we did better and got them more involved in tackles. Then they got a bit more restless. But overall, we didn’t manage that often enough. That’s why the win is deserved,“ said Simon Rolfes after the game
Meanwhile, Robert Andrich was quite dismayed: „Bayern were definitely superior in the first 45 minutes. We were also lucky that it was only 1-0. If you then score until the 75th minute, everything is possible again. But we have to be honest: Bayern were the better team in all respects. They were greedier, we rarely got out the back in a controlled manner.“
Coach Kasper Hjulmand also explained that they found virtually no way to counter Bayern’s pressure. „They’re a top team. They put us under pressure right from the start and we didn’t find the right way to play against Bayern. Then it becomes very difficult because they keep coming forward,“ he said. That’s probably the greatest tribute to the record champions after this game.
