Even if Bayern’s central defence appears to be well-stocked at first glance, those responsible at the Isar are apparently also planning a personnel shake-up in the centre of defence in the summer. According to the latest reports, DFB youngster Malick Thiaw could become a hot topic at the German record champions.

FC Bayern have recently been heavily linked with the signing of Jonathan Tah. The 28-year-old is expected to strengthen Munich’s shaky central defence in the new season.

Whether Tah is actually ready to leave Bayer Leverkusen in the summer remains to be seen. The Werkself would like to extend the expiring contract (2025) and still appear to be the German international’s first port of call.

As the Italian portal Calcio Mercato reports, FCB have already set their sights on an alternative: Malick Thiaw from AC Milan.

Milan are basically willing to talk to Thiaw

Thiaw is no stranger to Säbener Straße. The 22-year-old was already on the record champions‘ radar last winter. The three-time DFB international moved from FC Schalke 04 to AC Milan in the summer of 2022 for just under nine million euros.

At the time, there was a lot of criticism that the move abroad may have come too soon for the young defender. However, Thiaw has rapidly established himself in Italy. He has made 27 appearances this season. At the Rossoneri, the youngster has taken a big step forward in his development. At the same time, his market value has risen significantly to 30 million euros.

According to Calcio Mercato, Bayern still have Thiaw on their radar. Real Madrid are also rumoured to be interested.

Even though he is still contractually tied to Milan until 2027, the Italians would be willing to talk if they receive a „big offer“. This must be significantly higher than the market value.

Thiaw is a true defensive all-rounder. He can not only be deployed in central defence, but also on the right side of defence.
