FC Bayern have been planning to sign a defensive centre midfielder for some time. Martín Zubimendi from Real Sociedad, among others, has recently been repeatedly linked with a move to the German record champions. However, the Spaniard has now enthused about his current club.

Martín Zubimendi from Spanish first division club Real Sociedad has been rumoured to be a candidate for a move to FC Bayern for months. The Spaniard has recently impressed with strong performances and is said to be on the wish list of various top clubs.

Zubimendi: „Real Sociedad is my home“

However, the 25-year-old does not appear to be considering a move away from his training club at the moment. „These are just rumours, I’m happy at Real Sociedad, it’s like my home,“ Zubimendi is quoted as saying by Marca regarding the speculation surrounding a possible transfer.

Although the San Sebastian-born midfielder is not categorically ruling out a move, he is by no means forcing the issue: „I can’t say that I’ll play my whole career at Real Sociedad, maybe the club don’t want me to stay. I’m not worried about these rumours.“

Are Bayern still interested in a transfer?

However, it is currently unclear whether Bayern are still interested in signing the Spanish international. The rumours surrounding the signing of Zubimendi were linked to the speculation surrounding a Bayern move for Xabi Alonso, among other things. However, it is now certain that Alonso will remain coach of Bayer Leverkusen for at least another season.

Instead, Ralf Rangnick is now considered the top favourite to succeed Thomas Tuchel. The 65-year-old is apparently to have a say in potential new signings and is said to have favoured a transfer of Barca star Frenkie De Jong.

The Dutchman is still under contract with the Catalans until 2026 and has a market value of €70 million. According to the latest reports, De Jong can imagine leaving FC Barcelona next summer. Bayern, on the other hand, have reportedly had the 26-year-old on their radar for several years and tried to lure him from Amsterdam to the Isar back in 2019.
