FC Bayern’s Leroy Sané has been playing in pain for weeks – including during the home win over FC Arsenal. Now Munich want to give the German international a rest.

Bayern star Leroy Sané continues to be plagued by persistent inflammation of the pubic bone. The 28-year-old also played with severe pain during the 1:0 win in the quarter-final second leg against FC Arsenal.

According to BILD, the decision has been made internally at Bayern to rest Sané completely. The attacking player is to be withdrawn from training and matches.

After the game against Arsenal, Sané was once again closely examined and underwent tests, according to the report. He must therefore pay more attention to his health, otherwise he would risk an even worse injury.

Sané likely to miss out against Union and Frankfurt

According to BILD, Sané will therefore miss the next Bundesliga games against Union Berlin on Saturday and Eintracht Frankfurt next week.

The aim is for Sané to be fit again in time for the Champions League. The semi-final first leg against Real Madrid at the Allianz Arena will take place on 30 April. The second leg at the Bernabeu Stadium on 8 May.

Sané also has to keep an eye on the European Championship, which he could jeopardise if he puts too much strain on himself.

Bayern sporting director Christoph Freund had already reported straight after the game against Arsenal how badly Sané is currently struggling: „Leroy gritted his teeth and put in a great performance,“ said the Östrreicher: „He hasn’t actually been able to train for a few weeks now. That’s absolutely borderline.“

Bayern are currently reliant on Sané in attack: Serge Gnabry and Kingsley Coman are already two wingers out. The Frenchman’s season is probably over following his muscle bundle injury. Gnabry, on the other hand, could possibly be available again against Real after tearing his muscle fibre. Coach Thomas Tuchel currently has Mathys Tel, Thomas Müller and Bryan Zaragoza in the squad as alternatives.
