FC Bayern once again recorded a commanding victory on matchday 26. Nevertheless, the 5:2 victory also brought up one point of criticism: The two goals conceded. Sky pundit Dietmar Hamann and Bayern keeper Manuel Neuer criticised the team’s defensive weaknesses after the game.

After the final whistle of the clash between Bayern and Darmstadt, former Bayern professional Dietmar Hamann criticised Munich’s defensive behaviour. „You mustn’t forget that Bayern conceded two goals, Neuer made one good save before the first goal and Darmstadt hit the post and the crossbar once,“ he said, alluding to the Reds‘ shaky defence. Hamann added: „That’s too much. They have to defend better and more energetically in the coming weeks.“

However, the TV pundit also had praise for Munich: „They scored five goals up front, they did well.“ Overall, the German record champions mastered their „compulsory task“ well.

„Have to analyse that“

Bayern keeper Manuel Neuer was also unhappy with the two on the Darmstadt scoreboard after the match. In an interview with Sky, the 37-year-old criticised: „That’s clearly too much. We have to talk about it and analyse it.“ The captain of the German record champions once again put in a strong performance and shone after just 16 minutes with a lightning-quick reflex save against Mathias Honsak. Bayern were also saved several times by the aluminium.

Meanwhile, the German keeper had no chance with the two goals he conceded. Although Neuer emphasised that both goals „were not that easy to defend“, overall they simply offered Darmstadt too many chances.
