FC Bayern U19s miss out on a place in the semi-finals of the UEFA Youth League. The FCB youngsters suffered a home defeat against Olympiakos Piraeus.

FC Bayern’s U19s have been eliminated in the quarter-finals of the UEFA Youth League. Coach René Maric’s team lost 3-1 at home to Olympiakos Piraeus at the Bayern Campus.

In the Youth League, there is no first and second leg in the knockout round, but only one match that decides the outcome.

The Bayern youngsters were therefore eliminated from the competition after losing to the Greeks.

Christos Mouzakitis (32), Antonis Papakanellos (37) and Charalampos Kostoulas (40) scored all the goals for the visitors in the first half.

Bayern bosses watch from the stands

Robert Ramsak scored the equaliser for Munich in the 63rd minute, but Piraeus did not let the victory slip from their grasp after that.

Bayern’s U19s had already achieved something historic by reaching the Youth League quarter-finals: never before had an FCB team advanced to the last eight in this competition.

The Munich youth players had a good opportunity to show themselves to the club’s officials during the match at the Munich Campus. Professional coach Thomas Tuchel, new sporting director Max Eberl, sporting director Christoph Freund and honorary president Uli Hoeneß watched from the stands.

There were several players on the pitch who are expected to have a future in the German record champions‘ professional team or who have already trained with Tuchel’s squad, including Lovro Zvonarek, Adam Aznou and winter signing Jonah Kusi-Asare. Goalscorer Ramsak, on the other hand, will leave FC Bayern after the season: The U17 world champion is moving to RB Leipzig.
