FC Bayern appeared to be on course for victory in Freiburg, but then conceded an equalizer in the closing stages.

FC Bayern were held to a 2-2 draw in their away match at SC Freiburg on matchday 24.

Christian Günter gave Freiburg the lead in the 12th minute. Shortly before that, Bayern keeper Manuel Neuer made a great save to deny the home side a chance: after a cross from Vincenzo Grifo, Roland Sallai headed dangerously at goal, but Neuer made a strong save. However, the Bayern defense then failed to clear the ball properly and Günter hammered the ball into the bottom right-hand corner from around 18 meters, which Neuer could not keep out.

Four minutes later, Günter had a great chance to increase the SCF’s lead. The Freiburg captain ran alone towards Neuer, but the FCB goalkeeper made a strong save with his feet.

Tel with a beautiful flick

Freiburg’s next chance came in the 22nd minute: Grifo – pursued by Joshua Kimmich – dribbled against Eric Dier and Minjae Kim and even had a shot, but it was just wide right of the Munich goal.

Coach Thomas Tuchel’s team struggled against Freiburg for a long time and failed to create any scoring chances – until Mathys Tel equalized in the 35th minute!

A Raphael Guerreiro corner from the right was cleared out of the Freiburg penalty area. Tel went after it, grabbed the ball and flicked it precisely into the far corner from the edge of the penalty area. A real dream goal from the young Frenchman, who was in the starting eleven for the first time this Bundesliga season.

Shortly before the half-time whistle, Jamal Musiala even had the chance to put Bayern ahead: However, the youngster could only tip the ball into the arms of Freiburg keeper Noah Atubolu around six meters from goal.

Musiala scores after a strong solo run

The second half began with a chance for Bayern, but Harry Kane left-footed the ball just wide of the right-hand corner in the 47th minute.

Freiburg then had another good chance to score two minutes later, but Maximilian Eggestein flicked the ball just wide of the corner.

Kane then had another good chance in the 63rd minute. The Englishman allowed the ball to bounce up a little when he received it, then took it on the volley but shot across goal.

The record champions then took the lead in the 75th minute – and with their second dream goal. Musiala put in a strong solo performance, beat three Freiburg players in the penalty area and finished into the bottom right-hand corner.

But then came the late shock for Bayern in the 87th minute: Lucas Höler equalized for Freiburg with a powerful left-footed shot into the far corner.

Bayern thus took just one point from Freiburg. Bayer Leverkusen can now increase their lead at the top of the table to ten points with a win at 1. FC Köln on Sunday.
