Sources in Germany have now revealed that Bayern Munich showed some serious interest in Kai Havertz this summer.

The German midfielder was among the wish players of Hansi Flick back in 2020, and also one of the candidates to join Bayern in 2019-2020. But due to limited financial conditions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the club lowered their demands and only went for Leroy Sane in 2020.

Meanwhile, in the coming months, Chelsea bought Havertz for 80 million euros. But it looks like Bayern has renewed their interest in Kai Havertz again.

According to Sport1, Hasan Salihamidzic contacted Kai Havertz’s agency „ROOF“ about the situation and plans for Kai Havertz at the beginning of this summer’s transfer window. In the past, Kai Havertz was considered as a possible successor to Robert Lewandowski before the German transferred to Chelsea.

Sport1 journalist Kerry Hau claims that Bayern Munich wanted to include Lewandowski in a swap deal for Kai Havertz: „We heard that Bayern would have preferred Lewandowski to go to Chelsea and bring Havertz to Munich.“

In the end, it looked like it simply was mind game to force Barcelona to pay the fee as soon as possible, while on the other hand, Serge Gnabry extended his contract. As Lewandowski really wanted to go to FC Barcelona, Havertz has not shown any intention to leave, the 23 years old feels very comfortable in London.

However, the name Havertz is still a topic of discussion in Munich. The versatile attacker is a very interesting player for Bayern and the board rates him a lot. Salihamidzic also has a very good relationship with the entourage of the German and Havertz could become a serious topic once again next year if an attacking player leaves.
