Even though Benjamin Pavard will move to the central defense following Niklas Süle’s departure, the club is divided about whether they should go for another center back. Tanguy Nianzou’s future is still uncertain.
Bayern Munich’s sporting director and chief squad planner Hasan Salihamidzic hinted last week that Bayern need some defensive reinforcements. Julian Nagelsmann is currently pushing for new reinforcements and it is an open secret that the German head coach wants a new central defender with leadership qualities.
According to the local sources, „Abendzeitung München“, Bayern have targeted three specific players namely, Matthijs de Ligt, Kalidou Koulibaly and Gleison Bremer. Apparently, they are currently being discussed as potential new defensive reinforcements.
The current problem is that all three players would not be a bargain. The Juventus professional Matthijs de Ligt has been linked with the record champions for some time but would be by far the most expensive solution, as it would cost Bayern Munich a transfer fee of 70-80 million euros.
Kalidou Koulibaly has also been brought in the past as a potential major transfer for the defense. The Senegalese’s contract at Napoli ends in 2023 and would cost around 30 million euro. However, at the age of 31, Koulibaly isn’t a particularly a sustainable solution.
Gleison Bremer from Torino was considered as a potential Süle replacement in Munich at the beginning of the year. According to reports, the Brazilian also costs significantly more than 30 million euro and he is already on the shortlist of many clubs. Inter Milan in particular was said to be very interested and were in advanced talks with the player’s entourage
If Bayern cannot find a financially feasible deal, the new season will start with the current staff. According to „AZ“, the Bayern bosses are not willing to spend too much money on a new central defender.
