Manuel Neuer extended his contract with Bayern Munich until 2024 and will stand between the posts for at least two more years. Bayern’s decision to continue to rely on Neuer in the medium term will also affect Alexander Nübel’s future. His agent has now commented on the new extension.

„If Manu [Neuer] is still there, it doesn’t make sense for me to come back, it won’t work anymore,“ this was Alexander Nübel’s reaction to rumors concerning Neuer’s likely extensions a few weeks ago.

For Nübel’s agent Stefan Backs, nothing has changed for the first time as a result of the Neuer extension: „FC Bayern informed us at an early stage that they wanted to extend Manuel Neuer until 2024. That’s not a problem, nothing has changed in Alex’s situation anyway,“ he explained to „SPORT1“.

According to Backs, the 25-year-old is still convinced that Nübel can assert himself with the record champions: „It’s obviously his goal to establish himself at Bayern in the long term.“ A concrete decision as to whether and how the goalkeeper’s future will be at Bayern will be made next season: „We are in close and transparent contact with those in charge at FC Bayern and will reassess the situation after the next season.“

The decisive factor is how things will continue with Manuel Neuer after the European Championship in 2024, and whether he will stay for more years: “Should it become apparent that Manuel Neuer will also be in goal at FC Bayern beyond the Euro 2024, we would have to reorient ourselves.”

Nübel moved from FC Schalke 04 to Bayern on a free transfer in the summer of 2020 and has a contract with the club until 2025. Nübel is currently on loan to AS Monaco and is set to return to FC Bayern after the 2022/23 season.
