Erling Haaland is once again being linked to FC Bayern. Now there’s new speculation about his possible destination.
Erling Haaland and FC Bayern—this transfer topic keeps coming up. Even before his move to Manchester City, the Munich club had been actively considering signing the Norwegian striker. Haaland is now even being touted as a possible long-term successor to Harry Kane.
The topic was discussed once again on Sky. The discussion focused primarily on the question of what path Haaland might take in the coming years should his situation at Manchester City change at some point.
Former pro Jan-Age Fjörtoft, who is considered an expert on Haaland’s inner circle, does not rule out a move to Munich outright. However, his assessment clearly points in a different direction.
“If you look at Erling’s career: he was in Norway, he was in Salzburg, he was in Dortmund, he was in England. So, I can’t see him going back. He wants to experience everything. He’s a bon vivant, he’s a man of the world, and I think at some point he’ll play in Spain. Whether that’s in two, three, or four years, I have no idea, but I think that’s part of it,” Fjörtoft explained on Sky.
Fjörtoft sees Haaland playing in Spain in the long run
The Norwegian also pointed to Haaland’s career path so far and his personal connection to Manchester City: “Jude Bellingham went straight to Real Madrid. For Erling, of course, that was his dad’s club. He had a Manchester City jersey back then. That was that time. But now he’s 26 and things change—we’ll see. He does have a 100-year contract with Manchester City. Let’s see how that plays out.” Haaland’s contract with Man City does indeed run for many more years, through 2034.
Sky reporter Kerry Hau also sees no concrete signs at the moment of an impending Bayern move for Haaland. When asked about a possible move to Munich, he explained: “No, not right now. Hasan Salihamidzic really went after him back then. As for the future, I’d say: Never say never. It could always happen, but I see him more likely in Spain than in Munich.”
It has been known for years that Bayern Munich holds Haaland in high regard. Even during his time at Borussia Dortmund, the Munich club made intensive efforts to sign the forward. Hasan Salihamidzic even met with Haaland in person in Munich at the time. In the end, however, the striker opted for Manchester City.

Most recently, Bayern President Herbert Hainer hadn’t completely closed the door on the distant future, at least. When asked about a possible Haaland transfer as a long-term option, Hainer initially pointed to Bayern’s current offense but left open the possibility of how the situation might look in a few years.
In the short term, FC Bayern is continuing to rely on Kane anyway. The Englishman is set to extend his contract through 2029 and is expected to remain the centerpiece of Munich’s offense in the coming years.
Haaland thus remains more of a topic for the future for now. Should he and Manchester City part ways at some point, Bayern Munich would likely be mentioned once again as a potential suitor.
