A young talent at FC Bayern is currently working on his comeback. Now, the youngster has received a special visit from the Brazilian soccer federation.
Maycon Cardozo remains in the spotlight at FC Bayern despite his current injury. The 17-year-old is working on his return to the field following a shoulder dislocation and has apparently recently received special interest from Brazil.
As reported by BILD, Paulo Victor Gomes, coach of the Brazilian U20 and U23 national teams, visited the club’s training facility on Säbener Straße in recent days. The Brazilian subsequently posted a photo showing him alongside Bayern head coach Vincent Kompany and U23 coach Dante. All three are holding a Brazilian national team jersey in the photo.
The visit is likely related primarily to Cardozo. The attacking player was born in São Paulo and dreams of one day playing for Brazil’s youth national teams. For him, the U20 and U23 teams would be of particular interest right now—precisely the teams that Gomes coaches.
Brazil coach is tracking Cardozo’s development
Gomes himself hinted at the reason behind his trip to Europe in an Instagram post. The national team coach wrote: “Important international visits are beginning, during which we’ll closely monitor our players in Europe and strengthen our relationships with their clubs.”
According to BILD, no other player at FC Bayern is currently being considered for Brazil’s U20 or U23 teams. There is therefore good reason to believe that Cardozo played a central role in the discussions between Gomes, Kompany, and Dante. A first call-up to a Brazilian youth national team could thus be on the horizon.
On the field, Cardozo had been steadily working his way up to the first team before his injury. The winger made two Bundesliga appearances last season and also impressed during preseason training for the new season. At one point, a loan move was even considered a possibility, before the club changed its stance and decided that the youngster was capable of continuing his development directly in Munich.

At the end of August, however, this upward trajectory came to an abrupt halt. Cardozo dislocated his shoulder during a match for the reserve team against FV Illertissen and had to undergo surgery. Sporting director Christoph Freund had initially estimated a recovery time of three to four months.
Recently, however, there have been positive signs. Cardozo has already been able to resume individual training on the field and has even been doing drills with the ball. His recovery appears to be progressing faster than initially expected.
For the 17-year-old, this could mean his next big opportunity is just around the corner after his comeback. At FC Bayern, he wants to prove himself once again to earn more playing time under Kompany. At the same time, Cardozo is now apparently aware that his development is being closely monitored in Brazil.
