Contract negotiations with Harry Kane appear to be in the final stages. Vincent Kompany sees his role in this process primarily on the field.
At FC Bayern, there are still many signs pointing to a contract extension with Harry Kane. Talks between the club and the player have been ongoing for quite some time, and recently there have been increasing indications that an agreement could be just a matter of time.
Now Vincent Kompany has also commented on the striker’s situation. The Bayern coach made it clear that he is deliberately leaving the actual negotiations to the parties involved. The Belgian sees his primary role as creating the on-field conditions necessary for Kane to continue feeling at home in Munich and perform at his best.
“I’m always respectful of this situation and the process that has to play out: the player, the agent, the club. My responsibility in this situation is simply to ensure that Harry feels at home here, that he performs well on the field, or at least that he has an environment where he can do so. Most of the time, when that’s in place, the other things tend to fall into place a bit more easily,” Kompany explained to Sky.
Kane’s contract extension apparently just a formality
In doing so, Kompany describes quite precisely the role he himself plays in the contract negotiations. While the talks on the club side are primarily led by CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen, the coach is tasked with ensuring that the on-field outlook is right.
And there’s currently little doubt about that. Kane is not only an undisputed starter at FC Bayern but also one of the team’s cornerstones. The Englishman has long since established himself as a leader in Munich and has repeatedly emphasized how comfortable he feels at the German record champions.
Most recently, Sky reported that a fundamental breakthrough had already been achieved in the talks. According to the report, the new contract is set to run through 2029, after a term extending to 2030 had also been discussed at one point. Apparently, only the final details remain to be worked out.

The club has also sent clear signals recently. Karl-Heinz Rummenigge explained that Kane’s brother and father are negotiating with Dreesen and expressed optimism that a good solution would be found. The 33-year-old’s current contract runs through 2027.
For Kompany, the on-field aspect is the top priority anyway. As long as Kane finds the right environment in his day-to-day life, feels comfortable, and can perform at the highest level, the Bayern coach apparently sees this as the best foundation for successfully concluding the off-field discussions as well.
The direction thus seems clear: FC Bayern wants to keep Kane long-term, Kane himself can envision staying—and Kompany is ensuring that the on-field conditions for this remain in place.
