Bitter news for the FC Bayern women’s team: Giulia Gwinn suffered a torn lateral ligament in her left ankle during the 1-0 victory in the Bundesliga showdown at Eintracht Frankfurt.
As FC Bayern announced on Monday, medical examinations confirmed the diagnosis. The club did not initially provide any details on the exact length of her absence. One thing is clear, however: The 27-year-old will be out of action for the Munich team in the coming weeks.
This confirms the concerns raised by the footage from Frankfurt. Immediately after the game, there had already been fears of a prolonged absence. Gwinn twisted her ankle during a footrace in the closing stages, required treatment, and left the field limping.
Another Setback for Gwinn
The injury is particularly bitter given the German national team player’s recent history. Gwinn had dislocated her left shoulder just last April and had to undergo surgery in May. Prior to that, she had already recovered from two cruciate ligament tears and a medial collateral ligament tear in her left knee.
Now comes the next setback. The diagnosis is also a problem for the German national team. Gwinn is captain of the DFB squad and will miss the upcoming international matches against Australia and Japan.
