Nathaniel Brown has quickly found his footing at FC Bayern. The new signing has impressed not only with his versatility but has also, surprisingly, already been given the chance to play in a more offensive role. Now Brown has revealed how quickly he realized he wanted to make the move to Munich.
The Bavarian native hadn’t initially expected the German record champions to show any interest in him at all. But when his agent told him about the inquiry, Brown didn’t have to think twice.
“To be completely honest, I never thought FC Bayern would reach out to me. And then everything happened so fast,” the 23-year-old explained in an interview with the club magazine 51.
“So there was no question about it.”
Other options were no longer on the table for Brown. “When my agent told me about their interest, I said right away: I don’t want to hear about anything else. I’m from Bavaria, I can stay in Germany, and play for the best team in the country—one of the biggest clubs in the world,” emphasized the Bayern pro.
The talks with club officials and head coach Vincent Kompany also convinced him. Added to that was a personal connection to the record-breaking champions: “And my family and friends are all big Bayern fans, too. So there was no question about it. It was immediately clear to me that I wanted to join FC Bayern.”
For Brown, this marked a move that he himself apparently hadn’t expected at first.
Brown on his new role: “A smart soccer player”
On the field, the new signing’s versatility is particularly drawing attention. Brown was originally signed as a left back, but he has since even played in the number 10 position.
When asked how he would describe himself as a soccer player, Brown replied with a laugh: “A clever one, I’d say.”
He doesn’t want to be limited to a specific position. “I always enjoy soccer, think offensively, and am very ambitious. Whether I play at the back or up front—I want to influence the game with my strengths.”
It is precisely this flexibility that could make Brown even more valuable to FC Bayern in the future. In any case, the new signing is open to playing different roles—as long as he can influence Munich’s play on the field.
