After the resounding 7-0 victory over Union Berlin, the mood at FC Bayern was electric. Back in the Munich locker room, there were several special moments. Vincent Kompany asked four of his players to give a short speech to the team.
The reason: Harry Kane, Michael Olise, Ismael Saibari, and Serge Gnabry each had something special to celebrate that evening.
With his goal that made it 2-0, Kane reached the 100-goal mark in the Bundesliga. The Englishman needed only 98 appearances to do so, setting a new record.
Olise, meanwhile, scored his first hat trick at the club level in the goal-fest. Saibari celebrated his first goal for FC Bayern. For Gnabry, simply returning to the field was a special moment: The 31-year-old made his comeback after a long injury layoff.
Olise gives the shortest speech
Kompany apparently wanted to recognize these four personal success stories within the team as well. That’s why Kane, Olise, Saibari, and Gnabry each had to say a few words to their teammates.
Ironically, it was the man of the evening who provided a little chuckle. As Kane revealed, Olise gave by far the shortest speech.
It’s well known by now that the Frenchman isn’t a fan of big public appearances. Olise rarely gives interviews and often comes across as extremely reserved off the field. Even after his hat trick against Union, he declined to do a TV interview.
Kane made it clear, however, that this public image reflects only a small part of Olise’s personality.
“I really enjoy playing alongside Michael and like him a lot as a person. Not everyone gets to see his true personality, but he’s a great guy. He’s completely different from how he comes across to people on the outside.”
Kane raves about Olise as a person
In doing so, Kane offered an interesting glimpse into the inner workings of the Bayern Munich team. While Olise often comes across as quiet and almost taciturn in public, he seems to show a different side of himself in the locker room.
On the field, the 24-year-old is already making more than enough of an impact. Against Union, Olise was directly involved in five of Bayern’s seven goals. In addition to his hat trick, he set up Kane’s second goal and also drew the penalty that the Englishman converted into his historic 100th Bundesliga goal.
The four locker-room speeches were thus fitting for an evening in which, from Bayern’s perspective, there were several stories to celebrate.
Kane made Bundesliga history, Olise celebrated his first hat trick, Saibari scored his first goal for Bayern, and Gnabry made his comeback.
The only clear winner, however, seemed to be in the length of the subsequent speeches: Even after his stellar performance on the field, Olise remained true to his reserved nature.
