On the first matchday of the group stage of the Champions League, FC Bayern defeated Bodo/Glimt of Norway 5–0. Here are the FCBinside individual player ratings for the Bayern stars.
Manuel Neuer: Was barely tested. The visitors didn’t create any chances for over an hour. Then Helmersen tried to outwit Neuer—who was standing far off his goal—with a long-range shot, but missed the goal. Grade: 3.
Konrad Laimer: Playing right back, he was unable to create much offensive pressure in the first half. In the second half, Laimer came alive. With a well-timed cross, he set up Kane for a dangerous chance—but the Englishman missed. Just over an hour into the game, Kompany substituted Laimer out. Overall, a solid performance from the Austrian. Grade: 3.
Jonathan Tah: Defended attentively against the visitors’ few forays forward. Won his one-on-one duels and didn’t let anything slip by. Grade: 2.
Dayot Upamecano: Played a dangerous back pass once that caught Neuer off guard—but it rolled wide of the post and out of bounds. In the second half, a simple pass to Davies didn’t connect. Aside from these two moments of uncertainty, however, Upamecano had everything under control. Grade: 3.
Alphonso Davies: Played a few good passes in the build-up. Davies wasn’t busy defensively on the left side and could have used his speed to help Bayern even more in attack on numerous occasions. However, his left-footed rocket from distance to make it 3–0 was absolutely top-notch. What a goal! Grade: 2.
Joshua Kimmich: His powerful shot off the post jolted the arena out of its slumber. Kimmich had another chance shortly before halftime, but Haikin wedged the ball between his legs and managed to save it just before it crossed the goal line. Kimmich played several good passes and repeatedly drove Bayern forward. Grade: 2.
Aleksandar Pavlovic: Often skillfully closed down space in midfield and displayed confidence in his passing. Solid, but not spectacular. Grade: 3.
Michael Olise: His teammates looked for him time and again. But he wasn’t able to pose a real threat in the first half. With his precise free-kick cross to Kane’s head, Olise set up the 2–0 goal perfectly. The longer the match went on, the more flashes of brilliance Olise displayed. The highlight was Olise’s dream goal from distance to make it 4–0. Then he scored again to make it 5–0. A magnificent performance—world-class! Grade: 1.
Jamal Musiala: Surprisingly, he was back in Bayern’s starting lineup. Musiala was largely invisible in the number 10 role during the first half. Only once did he break through with a strong dribble and take a shot—but visiting goalkeeper Haikin made the save. Immediately after the restart, however, Musiala broke the deadlock for Bayern following a weak first half: After a series of passes and a blocked attempt by Kane, he finished crisply with his right foot to make it 1–0 for the home team. In the 65th minute, Musiala was substituted to the applause of the fans. Grade: 2.
Luis Diaz: Lost possession several times in the first half. Diaz was completely invisible for much of the second half. Later, one of his shots was blocked in a scramble. Grade: 4.
Harry Kane: Had Bayern’s first shot on goal, but goalkeeper Haikin made the save with ease. He didn’t pose a threat in the first half. After a good cross from Laimer, Kane sent the ball wide of the goal. But then Kane brought the Allianz Arena to its feet: Following a great free kick by Olise from the wing, the striker headed the ball into the net. Grade: 2.
Substitutes:
Ismael Saibari (65’ for Musiala): Got off one shot from a dangerous position in the penalty area, but it was blocked. Grade: 3.
Josip Stanisic (65′ for Laimer): Took over the right side of defense and finished the game solidly. Rating: 3.

Tom Bischof (80′ for Kimmich): Came on too late to be rated.
