Jamal Musiala could soon be back in the FC Bayern squad. The offensive player, who collapsed on the field during the games against Leipzig and Heidenheim, was removed from the squad for the Super Cup.
After his second collapse, the national team player publicly revealed that he suffers from absences that occasionally cause him to briefly lose consciousness. The good news: There was essentially no health risk to him.
Musiala explained early on that his condition is treatable. And that is indeed the case; it’s more a matter of finding the right medication.
On SPORT1’s “Doppelpass ,” Stefan Effenberg, the former FC Bayern player, has now commented on Musiala and the current situation surrounding the player.
“This is a sensitive topic, that’s clear. It’s about the body, but also about the mind. It’s not easy to deal with. After all, you’re in the public eye in front of millions of people, and everyone is asking what’s going on. We’ve now received the answers. The task now is to get him back on track,” said Effenberg.
According to Effenberg, it’s also a situation that Vincent Kompany still has to get used to. “It’s difficult for a coach. How do you deal with it? How do you use him? That will be a new challenge for the coaching staff. I think so. But he can count on FC Bayern—I’m sure of that.”
That’s why Effenberg also hopes that Musiala will return to a state where he doesn’t have seizures on the field—just like last season. “It’s not a new situation either; he’s been dealing with this for quite some time,” the former Bayern pro analyzed.
Effenberg explained once again the problem for Bayern if there’s still a risk of new episodes: “It’s also interesting to see how you deal with it tactically. If you play Musiala, you always need a backup for him—at least as long as it could still happen.” That’s why Bayern’s goal, in consultation with the medical staff, is to successfully restore him to his former condition.
