FC Bayern won the Super Cup against Borussia Dortmund. The record champions prevailed 2-1; the first half was very solid and exactly what you’d expect from FCB.
In the second half, however, they allowed BVB to gain too much control of the game. That’s why the players weren’t entirely satisfied with the way Bayern played.
Nevertheless: After a preseason that was quite complicated overall—because many players were unable to join training until late—a victory in the first competitive match is definitely a positive result.
Tah hits a nerve
Jonathan Tah, who put in a solid performance but made a bad pass before the BVB scored their goal, was satisfied with the title. “Yes, a title always means a lot. We made it possible for ourselves and earned it with our strong performance last season. We wanted to come here and, of course, win it,” the defender explained to Sky.
He was asked about his challenge on Maximilian Beier during the latter’s big chance to tie the game at 2–2 shortly before the end. “I also made the bad pass that led to the goal, so I have to be there in situations like that,” the national team player explained.
Tah was then asked whether plays like that misplaced pass stay on his mind for long. He said no. “Not for long. I’ve been playing for so long. You don’t dwell on things like that,” said Tah.
The defender was particularly pleased with the team’s fighting spirit. Otherwise, however, there was still room for improvement. “We gave it our all as a team. We know we can do even better—we still have room to grow—but we gave it our all and won the game,” Tah analyzed after the match.
Bayern’s next match is already this Friday, when they’ll host VfB Stuttgart to kick off the new Bundesliga season.
