FC Bayern Munich will play away at Borussia Dortmund on Saturday in the Super Cup for the first official title of the new season. Ahead of the matchup, no one wants to hear anything about it being just a friendly.
This game is all about prestige. When Bayern and BVB face off, it’s always a very special match.
Niko Kovac, Dortmund’s coach, confirmed this over the weekend: “I keep saying it: This is about a title. That might not be what everyone wants to hear, but that’s the way it is. We’re athletes; there’s a trophy at stake, and we’re determined to win this game. Bayern wants to win it, too.”
Neuer Sets Super Cup Victory as Goal
And Kovac is absolutely right. After all, it’s no ordinary game for Bayern either—especially not at their rival’s stadium. During the Allianz Team Day, an event at the Bayern Campus where the women’s and men’s teams were introduced, among other things, captain Manuel Neuer spoke about the upcoming Super Cup.

“Overall, our preparations are going very well. We’re all in good spirits and looking forward to this classic matchup on Saturday in the Super Cup. We’re really fired up to win this game,” explained the goalkeeper, who currently appears to be in top form. In recent friendlies against Aston Villa and RB Leipzig, he performed at a high level.
In the new season, Neuer will share playing time with Jonas Urbig. Bayern coach Vincent Kompany will decide exactly how that playing time will be divided. It’s clear that Urbig will continue to be brought into the fold, as it looks like Neuer will finally retire in 2027.
Until then, however, the main goal and motivation for the season is to win as many titles as possible—starting with Saturday’s Super Cup.
