FC Bayern aims to further trim its roster by Deadline Day. There has been a setback regarding Joao Palhinha, and the club is still seeking solutions for Sacha Boey and Bryan Zaragoza.
On the incoming side, FC Bayern has completed its major plans for this summer’s transfer window. Nevertheless, there is still work to be done for sporting director Max Eberl. With Joao Palhinha, Sacha Boey, and Bryan Zaragoza, there are still three prominent players in the squad who are likely to be sold.
It has been known for some time that the Munich club is hoping to part ways with this trio. Eberl had already made it clear publicly during preseason that the club has different sporting plans. Now, time is slowly running out for the club’s management.
During Ismael Saibari’s presentation on Friday, Eberl commented on the current situation: “The deadline is September 1 at 8 p.m. The transfer market is different than usual after a World Cup. We still have two and a half weeks left. We’ve communicated clearly from the start what the plan is. Things are moving. Aston Villa has contacted us about Joao Palhinha, but we won’t reach an agreement there.”
This marks a significant setback, ironically involving the very player who most recently seemed the most likely to leave.
Palhinha, Boey, and Zaragoza: Here’s the current status
Aston Villa had recently been working hard to secure a transfer for Palhinha. The player himself is also open to a move to Birmingham. The problem lies in the clubs’ differing expectations. Bayern wants to sell the 31-year-old outright following his loan to Tottenham Hotspur and is hoping for a transfer fee in the range of 25 to 30 million euros.
Villa, on the other hand, favors a loan deal. Most recently, a loan with an option to buy was on the table. For Bayern, this model is currently unacceptable. Eberl made it clear on Friday that no agreement will be reached under the current conditions. At least there is another interested party from the Premier League: Newcastle United. The Magpies have already expressed their interest in Palhinha.
The approach regarding Sacha Boey also remains unchanged. The right back is to be sold if a suitable offer is made. His impressive performances during preseason have not fundamentally changed this stance.
After the friendly against Aston Villa, Kompany specifically praised the Frenchman for his professional handling of his situation. However, in the internal pecking order on the right side of defense, Konrad Laimer and Josip Stanisic are ahead of Boey. Following his loan to Galatasaray, there are still no long-term playing prospects for the 25-year-old in Munich. However, no concrete suitor has emerged so far.
Eberl must continue to look for solutions
The situation with Zaragoza remains the most difficult. The Spaniard has a long-term contract through 2029, but no longer plays a significant role in the record champion’s plans. Bayern would like to sell the winger permanently.
However, according to information from *kicker*,Zaragoza recentlyrejected a “lucrative offer” from outside Europe. This means a potential solution has already fallen through on the player’s end. Consequently, the search for a new club remains complicated for Eberl.

In all three cases, Bayern is pursuing the same fundamental goal: rather than merely postponing the problems through further loan deals, the club aims to find permanent solutions where possible and generate transfer revenue.
Eberl does not feel under pressure, despite the looming deadline. The clear rejection of Aston Villa’s offer, in particular, shows that FC Bayern does not want to let its players go at any cost. However, with September 1 fast approaching, there is little time left to find suitable solutions for Palhinha, Boey, and Zaragoza.
