Bradley Barcola was among the players Bayern Munich was interested in this past summer. However, concrete transfer talks never materialized. Instead, Liverpool now appears to have the best chance of signing the PSG attacking star.
The transfer saga surrounding Bradley Barcola is gaining momentum. According to information from BILD, Liverpool FC is currently preparing an initial official offer for the Paris Saint-Germain winger and hopes to close the deal as soon as possible.
This move apparently gives the Reds a decisive edge over the competition in their pursuit of the French international.
Bayern Munich also played a role at one point this summer.
Bayern sought information
As BILD reports, the Munich club inquired about Barcola as early as the start of the transfer window. According to the report, club officials initially wanted to get an overview of the 23-year-old’s general situation and assessed the conditions for a potential transfer.
However, things did not progress beyond this initial contact.
No concrete negotiations were initiated with Paris Saint-Germain, nor did Bayern prepare an official offer. Internally, the matter subsequently lost its significance.
Barcola was part of the plan in case Olise left
The main reason for this was Michael Olise.
As previously reported in the Bayern Insider podcast, Barcola was considered internally as one of the club’s top targets in the event that Olise were to unexpectedly leave the record champions. Bayern had scouted the market for this scenario early on.
However, since a transfer involving the French international never materialized, there was ultimately no urgent need for Munich to make a move on the offensive wings.
Liverpool is now clearly in the lead
Liverpool FC now appears to be capitalizing on this situation.
According to information from BILD, the English club is pushing ahead with the transfer at full speed and is already working on its first official offer to Paris Saint-Germain. This puts the Reds significantly ahead of all other suitors in the race for Barcola.
For Bayern Munich, this development could well become relevant as the transfer window progresses.
Should the situation surrounding Michael Olise change unexpectedly and Munich find itself in need of a new winger on short notice, Barcola is unlikely to still be available. Liverpool is already at a much more advanced stage in its pursuit of the PSG star and currently has the best chance of bringing the French international to Anfield Road.
From today’s perspective, however, there are no signs that FC Bayern will resume its efforts to sign Barcola. Unless there is an unexpected departure in the offense, the German record champions currently have no urgent need to act in this position. As a result, the decision-makers at Säbener Straße are focusing on other areas in need of attention, while Liverpool continues to push forward resolutely with the transfer of the coveted PSG star.
