FC Bayern’s U23 team faces a severe penalty following a pyrotechnics incident during their away game in Burghausen. The Bavarian Soccer Association has responded with a point deduction and a fine.
The Bavarian Football Association (BFV) has sanctioned Bayern’s amateur team following the incidents during the Regionalliga away game against SV Wacker Burghausen.
As the association announced, FC Bayern’s U23 team will be penalized with a two-point deduction and a fine of 16,750 euros.
Bayern slips down the standings
The penalty was triggered by a pyrotechnics incident in the Bayern fan section during the match in Burghausen. The game had to be temporarily suspended due to smoke.
The point deduction also affects the final standings of the Bavarian Regional League: Bayern’s amateur team drops from eighth to eleventh place.
For the BFV, this is not an isolated incident. According to the association, a total of 13 violations were recorded in connection with Bayern’s amateur team. As a result, the BFV has classified the record champions in the Bavarian Regional League as repeat offenders.
FC Bayern had already been penalized for a similar incident following the first leg against Wacker Burghausen. At that time, the association imposed a fine of 26,000 euros and a point deduction.
With this renewed sanction, the Bavarian Soccer Association aims to send a clear message against the use of pyrotechnics.
While point deductions for pyrotechnics are not provided for in the other regional leagues or in German professional soccer, the BFV in Bavaria is imposing this measure on FC Bayern for the second time.
The record champion has not yet issued a statement regarding the decision.
