Michael Olise and Dayot Upamecano are not only two of the most important French internationals at FC Bayern, they also get on very well off the pitch. At the Équipe Tricolore’s World Cup training camp, Olise provided some interesting insights into the relationship between the two Bayern stars – and highlighted his team-mate’s special personality in particular
The two are currently preparing for the 2026 World Cup in North America with France and expectations are high for the runners-up, with Upamecano expected to play a central role as a defensive leader and Olise as a creative difference-maker
As part of the training camp, Olise has now spoken about the FC Bayern center-back, describing him as a player with two completely different sides
„It’s different on the pitch“

„Dayot is my neighbor, he’s a very nice guy, very likeable off the pitch,“ Olise explained
But as soon as the whistle blows, Upamecano changes completely, according to his team-mate: „It’s different on the pitch. He’s aggressive, a leader, always wants to win. I’m looking forward to playing with him at Bayern and also here in the national team.“
These statements show the status Upamecano now enjoys within the team. After a few difficult years, the 27-year-old has developed into an absolute leader under Vincent Kompany
Just a few months ago, the French international extended his contract with FC Bayern until 2030. Munich were very interested in keeping the defensive boss for the long term and were able to successfully conclude talks after lengthy negotiations
Internally, Upamecano is not only valued for his sporting quality, but also for his role within the dressing room, and it is precisely these qualities that Olise is now emphasizing
Olise is the next candidate for an extension
While Upamecano’s future has been clarified, another important personnel issue could come up for Bayern after the World Cup: the contract extension of Michael Olise
The Frenchman has had an outstanding season and is now one of the most important players in Vincent Kompany’s team, prompting interest from numerous top European clubs
So far, Bayern have consistently blocked all inquiries. Olise himself also feels at home in Munich and is completely satisfied in sporting terms – factors that favour a long-term collaboration
The statements about Upamecano also show how comfortable the attacking star now feels in the Bayern environment, which should be a further positive signal for those responsible in Munich with regard to possible contract talks after the World Cup.
