FC Bayern have apparently scaled back their efforts to sign Givairo Read. The Dutchman was long regarded as the ideal solution for the right side of defence, but Munich’s priorities now appear to have changed
At the beginning of the year, numerous reports had suggested that the German record champions were working hard to sign the 19-year-old, with Bayern already holding concrete talks with the player’s side and officially registering their interest
However, as Sky now reports, the trail to Munich has now cooled considerably. There are currently no more advanced or concrete talks between FC Bayern and the talented right-back: „He was right at the top of Bayern’s priority list for a very, very long time. That is no longer the case,“ emphasized transfer insider Florian Plettenberg
Bayern have other priorities
Munich’s new strategic direction is particularly noteworthy: according to Sky, reinforcements for the attack and central midfield are currently a higher priority than the right side of defense
This development is quite surprising, as the right-back position has repeatedly been considered one of the biggest construction sites in the Bayern squad in recent years. At the latest after the Champions League exit against Paris Saint-Germain, discussions about the lack of stability and quality in this position became louder again
In the current season, Vincent Kompany has mainly relied on Konrad Laimer and Josip Stanisic on the right flank. Both have performed their duties solidly, but are not considered the ideal long-term solution for the position. This is precisely why Givairo Read has long been considered an exciting candidate
The Dutchman impresses above all with his pace, dynamism and attacking style of play. The 19-year-old also has enormous development potential
Nevertheless, FC Bayern currently seem to want to tackle other areas in the squad more urgently
In particular, the search for additional quality in attack is in full swing, with Anthony Gordon still regarded as the ideal solution
Nevertheless, Read remains an exciting name

Givairo Read is not completely off the table, however, according to Plettenberg. The Dutchman is still a player Bayern are monitoring
The talented right-back is one of the most interesting young players in his position in Europe and could continue to be an exciting prospect for Bayern
As things stand, however, there are many indications that Munich will initially prioritize other transfer targets in the summer.
