FC Bayern will surprisingly turn their attention to the English Championship on Tuesday evening, where the future of Daniel Peretz could be decided – and whether the Munich club will receive millions in the summer
Loan keeper Daniel Peretz will face Middlesbrough with Southampton FC in the semi-final second leg of the promotion play-offs. The first leg ended goalless at 0-0, and now it’s time to decide who will advance to the final
From Bayern’s point of view, the match is particularly explosive, because if Southampton are eliminated, a contractually agreed obligation to buy the Israeli international goalkeeper would automatically expire
Southampton would have to buy if promoted
As previously reported by the BBC, the Abendzeitung München has now confirmed that the Saints would be obliged to sign Daniel Peretz permanently in the event of promotion to the Premier League. The transfer fee would therefore be around eight million euros
That would be a lucrative deal for FC Bayern, who only signed the goalkeeper from Maccabi Tel Aviv for around five million euros in the summer of 2023
However, if Southampton fail against Middlesbrough, only a purchase option of the same amount would apply – not a commitment
It is currently unclear whether Southampton would actually exercise the option if they remain in the Championship
Peretz has certainly impressed in England, keeping seven clean sheets in 20 league games so far and becoming an important factor for the Saints
The Bayern keeper also kept a clean sheet in the first leg of the play-offs. „It’s a perfect match for both of us,“ said Peretz himself recently about his time at Southampton
Bayern plan without Peretz

Despite his strong performances, the goalkeeper is still considered a candidate for sale at Säbener Straße, mainly due to the current goalkeeping situation at the record champions
Manuel Neuer is set to extend his contract until 2027, while Jonas Urbig is set to receive significantly more playing time in the future and be groomed as his long-term successor
Added to this is the generally large number of goalkeepers in the Munich squad
The play-off second leg against Middlesbrough could therefore not only have enormous sporting significance for Southampton – but could also have a direct influence on FC Bayern’s transfer plans. Should the Saints miss out on promotion, Munich would suddenly have to actively work on a solution for Peretz again.
