Most recently, Davies suffered another muscle injury in his left rear thigh in the Champions League semi-final against Paris Saint-Germain. According to BILD, this is a torn muscle bundle. The 25-year-old will therefore be out for the rest of the season. Even his participation in the World Cup with Canada is currently in doubt
FC Bayern is growing increasingly concerned about this development, as Davies has been battling new setbacks for months following his serious cruciate ligament rupture
Freund speaks openly about mental strain
After the Bundesliga match against Wolfsburg, sporting director Christoph Freund made it clear just how difficult the situation currently is for Davies. „He has come back well from his serious knee injury and then muscle injuries have repeatedly set him back,“ explained Freund. The fact that Davies has never really got into a stable rhythm is particularly problematic
The Austrian also openly addressed the psychological component: „Of course, it’s also a difficult phase for him mentally at the moment.“
The full-back’s injury history in recent months reads like a nightmare. In March 2025, Davies suffered a cruciate ligament rupture including cartilage damage in his right knee. After months of rehab, he only made his comeback in December
But the next setback followed immediately afterwards. In February 2026, Davies suffered a torn muscle fibre in his right hamstring. As soon as he returned to the pitch, he also suffered a hamstring strain against Atalanta Bergamo
This was followed by another muscle injury against PSG – this time in his left leg
Kompany sees a psychological challenge above all
Vincent Kompany also expressed concern about his player’s current situation. However, the Bayern coach still firmly believes that Davies will make a full physical recovery. „Physically, I’m not worried. He’ll be back, he’ll be fine,“ explained the Belgian
The real challenge currently lies elsewhere: „But mentally, it’s just incredibly difficult.“
According to Kompany, the many small setbacks are particularly stressful: „Sometimes it’s not the really big injuries that are difficult. It’s the smaller ones that keep coming back.“
Davies had already made the extent to which the situation was weighing on him public during his cruciate ligament rehab. The Bayern professional spoke openly about his feelings on his YouTube channel at the time and reported a „mental breakdown“
