The future of Alexander Nübel remains one of the most exciting personnel issues at FC Bayern. The goalkeeper is scheduled to return to Munich in the summer after his loan – but it remains to be seen what will happen next.
VfB Stuttgart do not want to make any concrete statements at the moment. CEO Alexander Wehrle deliberately avoided making a clear statement and explained: „I would be stupid to say anything about it now.“ Instead, he emphasized that they would only look more closely at the personnel issue after the end of the season.
The situation therefore remains unclear for the time being – and at the same time raises many questions. One thing is clear: Nübel is still under contract with FC Bayern until 2030 and will initially return to Säbener Straße in the summer.
The initial situation is complex. Nübel has been talked about as a potential successor to Manuel Neuer for years, but the veteran could extend his contract again, while Jonas Urbig is being developed as a solution for the future.
Nübel himself has gained a lot of match experience in recent years – first at AS Monaco and most recently at VfB Stuttgart, where he established himself as a regular keeper.
Internally, there have recently even been thoughts of parting ways with the goalkeeper permanently, due to economic factors and long-term planning in the goalkeeping position. An early termination of his contract was considered a possible scenario at times, but currently seems rather unlikely.
Several options conceivable for Nübel
What happens next depends largely on several factors: Will Neuer stay beyond the summer? What role is planned for Urbig? And is Nübel ready to face the competition?

Another transfer – whether on loan or permanently – cannot be ruled out either. If FC Bayern do not have clear prospects, interest from other clubs is likely to quickly become concrete again.
The decision on Alexander Nübel’s future will not be made until after the end of the season. Until then, the goalkeeping issue at FC Bayern will remain one of the key topics for the coming season.
