FC Bayern go into the second leg against Real Madrid with a lead – but Karl-Heinz Rummenigge urges caution
The starting position for FC Bayern in the Champions League quarter-finals is promising. After the 2:1 victory in the first leg, Munich have every chance of reaching the semi-finals
However, Karl-Heinz Rummenigge also sees a danger in this. In an interview with DAZN, the former board boss warned against too much complacency and sent a clear message to the team
„We mustn’t make the mistake of allowing too much euphoria to build up. I’m seeing a bit of hype at the moment, and I honestly don’t like it,“ he said
Rummenigge knows from his own experience how quickly a seemingly good result against Real Madrid can turn around. Past matches in particular have left an impression on the 70-year-old: „Real Madrid have annoyed us often enough here in Munich, and I would like to remind you of that.“
One match in particular sticks in his mind: the semi-final in 2014, when FC Bayern lost the second leg at the Allianz Arena by a clear margin after a narrow first-leg defeat: „We lost the second leg. Sergio Ramos scored two goals from set pieces after 15 minutes and the game was practically decided,“ said Rummenigge
Clear demands on the Bayern team
He is therefore demanding maximum concentration for the upcoming clash. Despite the lead, FC Bayern must once again push themselves to their limits: „That’s exactly why I’m saying: We have to deliver another absolutely top performance next week on Wednesday. Highly concentrated, play very cleverly – and try to repeat what we showed on Tuesday.“

The good mood around FC Bayern makes Rummenigge think back to a great Bayern triumph: „The atmosphere at the club reminds me of 2020, when we won the Champions League,“ he explained.
