FC Bayern are always looking for top-class players, and a Liverpool star is said to have been on the list, but is apparently no longer an issue
The record champions always have their eyes open when it comes to new players. The squad is to be improved and changed from year to year. If it is up to those responsible, then market opportunities should be recognized and seized
Transfer-free players are one such opportunity. Ibrahima Konate, defender from Liverpool FC, is available on a free transfer in the summer. And the rumour mill is still churning with him. Real Madrid are said to be watching him, FC Bayern were interested for a long time. But that no longer seems to be an issue, according to reports from The Athletic in England
Why Bayern is out with Konate
According to the report, Bayern actually had Konate on their radar for some time, but now, like FC Barcelona, will not be looking to sign the French defender from Liverpool FC. The reason is obvious for Bayern, as Dayot Upamecano has extended his contract, which means that Bayern do not need a new player in the center of defence for the time being
That could change if Min-jae Kim leaves the club, but a decision on that won’t be made until the summer and Konate won’t wait that long to decide on his future. On the one hand, there is currently no need, but on the other, the timing simply doesn’t fit

Of course, Bayern are continuing to monitor the market and are not ruling out the possibility of taking action in central defence, but they will then prioritise other candidates who will be available in the summer. In Konate’s case, there is also a growing trend towards a contract extension, even if the Reds and the player’s side have not yet been able to agree on the details. Real Madrid, meanwhile, remain in the running as an alternative.
