FC Bayern have to cope with another setback: Alphonso Davies was injured in the 3-2 defeat against Eintracht Frankfurt. It is now clear how badly the left-back has been hit.
In the home win against Frankfurt, the 25-year-old sat down on the pitch shortly after the restart and had to be substituted in the 49th minute. Sporting director Max Eberl hinted immediately after the final whistle: „It looked like it would be longer.“ When asked whether a longer absence was imminent, he replied curtly: „Yes.“
Vincent Kompany was also initially cautious. „It doesn’t look too bad. I don’t know whether it will be two or four weeks. But I have the feeling that it won’t be too long,“ the head coach told DAZN. At the press conference, he added: „His body language after the game was better than at the moment it happened. I don’t know whether it will be two, three or four weeks. He’ll be examined now and then we’ll know more.“
Torn muscle fiber in the thigh confirmed
The examinations have now brought clarity: Davies suffered a torn muscle fibre in his rear right thigh. FC Bayern officially announced this. They did not give an exact downtime, but a break of three to six weeks is usually to be expected with such an injury.
This new forced break is doubly bitter for the Canadian. He had only celebrated his comeback on 9 December after 262 days, after a cruciate ligament rupture suffered in March 2025 in an international match had put him out of action for months. The relief at his return in December was all the greater – now comes the next setback.
The Canadian means Kompany will be missing an important factor on the left-hand side of defence in the coming weeks. Hiroki Ito replaced the injured full-back against Frankfurt, while Raphaël Guerreiro is also available as an alternative. Konrad Laimer and Josic Stanisic, who have also been struggling recently, can also help out on the left.
Joshua Kimmich described the situation after the game as follows: „He was very down on the pitch, very sad, because he quickly realised it was an injury. I don’t know exactly what he has. He was a bit more composed in the dressing room. Let’s see what comes out. Now they’ll take a picture, then we hope it won’t be too long a time out.“ Jamal Musiala was also concerned: „But the way he ran out, I’m positive. It’s sad to see. We hope it’s nothing serious.“
