Eberl happy about Upamecano deal
Bayern sporting director Max Eberl commented on the extension as follows: „Dayot Upamecano is another central figure in our team with whom we were able to extend his contract. A squad needs anchors: Dayot is the next one. Often the question is not who you bring in – but who you develop: Dayot has matured into a top international player at FC Bayern, we look forward to continuing our journey together.“
Sporting Director Christoph Freund was also overjoyed: „Dayot Upamecano brings a really strong combination of pace, physicality and anticipation to our team. The way he plays soccer fits in perfectly with our style of play, and he has developed into an absolute world-class defender and leader at FC Bayern. Upamecano has „big goals“ at FC Bayern
Upamecano is also pleased that he will continue his career in Munich: „I’m very happy to stay at FC Bayern and to be able to continue playing in this team: We have a great team and a great coach, and together we have big goals. It’s always about mentality in life – I give everything for my teammates, in every training session, I want to play every game to zero and win as many titles as possible with FC Bayern.“
According to media reports, the French international’s extension will make him one of the top earners at Säbener Straße and will see him earn up to €20 million per year in future. The central defender is also set to receive €15-20 million in hand money and has secured a release clause in his contract for the summer of 2027, which would allow him to leave Bayern early for the fixed transfer fee of €65 million
Upamecano moved to FC Bayern from RB Leipzig in the summer of 2021 and has developed into a real regular and key player in recent years. The Frenchman is an integral part of Munich’s defense, especially under Vincent Kompany.
