The future of Dayot Upamecano at FC Bayern remains open. Max Eberl once again commented on the central defender’s contract situation and made it clear that a decision is still pending.
Despite intensive talks, the 27-year-old has still not signed. In an interview with Sport BILD, Eberl emphasised: „We had very good and constructive talks with Upamecano’s management before Christmas. From our point of view, we have made a very good contract offer. Now it’s up to the player to make a decision.“
He added: „We all want a decision to be made soon. There is no deadline, but it would be helpful for everyone involved if a decision is made soon. Even if the decision goes against us, we would live with it. I can’t announce anything at the moment.“
After the 8-1 win over Wolfsburg a week ago, Eberl denied media reports that an agreement had been reached. French newspapers L’Équipe and BILD had both reported that an agreement had been reached on salary, duration and a €65 million exit clause.
Exit clause and hand money still open
Eberl clearly corrected this statement on DAZN: „What is being written around us, what you might have heard somewhere – these are conjunctives. He has not yet agreed, he has everything on the table. Let’s wait and see, step by step.“
According to information from Sky, there is still a need for clarification – especially on two sensitive points: Negotiations on the hand money and the exact structure of the exit clause have not yet been concluded. Upamecano is set to receive a salary of up to 20 million euros per year, supplemented by a signing fee of potentially the same amount.
With the current offer, Upamecano would join the absolute salary elite at Säbener Straße. The new contract is set to run until 2031. In sporting terms, the Frenchman has developed into a permanent fixture in the defence under Vincent Kompany. The club is sending a clear signal of confidence with the offer – now everyone is waiting for the player’s decision.
