Winter has Germany firmly in its grip and poses considerable challenges for the Bundesliga. Two games have already had to be canceled, will Bayern’s home game against VfL Wolfsburg follow?
Storm „Elli“ is causing chaos in Germany. Snow, ice and freezing temperatures have already led to the cancellation of matches in Bremen and Hamburg. The matches between Werder and Hoffenheim and between St. Pauli and Leipzig have been called off for safety reasons. So it’s no wonder that Munich is also looking anxiously to the skies.
Unlike in the north, however, the conditions in Bavaria remain stable. As things stand, nothing stands in the way of the match between FC Bayern and VfL Wolfsburg on Sunday evening. The relevant authorities gave the green light on Saturday, according to several media reports.
Kompany warns of Wolfsburg’s offensive strength
The sporting conditions could hardly be more different. While the record champions are unbeaten at the top of the table, Wolfsburg are fighting to avoid relegation. Daniel Bauer’s team are in 14th place and are showing weaknesses in defence in particular. Bayern, on the other hand, have by far the most dangerous attack in the league with 55 goals.
However, Bayern coach Vincent Kompany warned at the pre-match press conference not to underestimate the Wolves: „Wolfsburg’s strengths are obvious, they are a strong attacking team and always dangerous in front of goal. They have scored a lot of goals in recent games. It won’t be an easy game. You have to be prepared for the opponent’s strengths. If they get a chance, they will score. But then it’s all about our strengths – imposing our game,“ said the Belgian.
Looking back, everything also speaks in favour of Munich. Ten competitive matches in a row have recently been won against VfL. FCB regularly dominated the action at home in the Allianz Arena in particular. The match will be broadcast exclusively on DAZN at 17:30 on Sunday.
