FC Bayern are pushing ahead with their talent strategy at a rapid pace – and after the impressive breakthrough of Lennart Karl, the next campus jewel could soon follow. Munich have long been committed to sustainably increasing the permeability from the youth sector. Now there are increasing indications that Vincent Kompany is specifically developing another youngster from his own talent factory: Guido Della Rovere
With Leon Goretzka set to leave Munich at the end of the season, the record champions are working hard to find a medium-term solution for the central midfield. Names such as Nathan de Cat, Kees Smit and Ayyoub Bouaddi have been circulating prominently recently – but they all have one thing in common: young, capable of development and ideal for competing behind Joshua Kimmich and Aleksandar Pavlovic
But while the market is being scouted, the answer could be just around the corner: Guido Della Rovere, only signed from Cremonese in the summer of 2024 for around €250,000, is experiencing a development that has probably surprised even the Bayern bosses
Strong numbers, great development – Della Rovere plays his way to the fore

The 18-year-old is one of FC Bayern II’s outstanding players. His record in the regional league reads like that of a seasoned professional: 16 appearances, 4 goals and 9 assists
He has also made 3 appearances and scored 2 goals in the UEFA Youth League, where he has proven his quality at international level. His performances have also earned him a call-up to the Italy U19 national team – a milestone that shows how quickly he has developed in Munich
Italian journalist Luca Bendoni reports that Vincent Kompany is now „keeping a close eye“ on the youngster. Della Rovere is already training regularly with the first team and, according to Bendoni, is about to be called up to the professional squad for the first time
Flexible, courageous, intelligent player
What makes Della Rovere so interesting for the Bayern coach is his versatility. He can operate as a linking midfielder on the eight as well as provide creative impetus on the ten. Most recently, the campus coaching staff even deployed him up front – a sign of his tactical understanding and attacking quality
This flexibility fits perfectly with the profile Kompany and the Bayern bosses are looking for in the future: a dynamic, technically strong midfielder who can learn immediately, but at the same time is given enough time to develop behind Kimmich and Pavlovic
In Lennart Karl, a talented player has already managed to establish himself in the professional hierarchy this season, and those responsible are consistently pursuing the vision of making the Bayern campus a real pillar of squad planning
Della Rovere could be the next big step on this path. If his development continues at this rate, the 18-year-old is on the verge of earning his first professional debut.
