Harry Kane has had an outstanding season and has also managed to perform at a very high level throughout his time with FC Bayern.
He won three national titles with the record-holding champions last season, and the first trophy of the new season—the Super Cup—is already in the bag.
On top of that, Kane has now been named Soccer Player of the Year. This was the result of a vote by sports journalists, traditionally conducted on behalf of *kicker*.
Kane doesn’t just want to win this title—he also has his sights set on the Ballon d’Or. Many experts see him as the top contender for that award.
Dier raves about Kane
But back to the Footballer of the Year title. He will receive the award on Friday at the kickoff of the new Bundesliga season.
Ahead of the ceremony, Eric Dier—a close friend of Kane’s who played alongside him at Tottenham and Bayern Munich—had a few words for the striker.
In a tribute published in *kicker*, he wrote: “Do you remember how they called you a ‘one-season wonder’ for five years? After 21 league goals? The next year, you scored 25. Then 29. Then 30. And the naysayers never stopped. ‚One-season wonder’—how ridiculous! It never bothered you. I think it actually fueled you.”
Dier also explained how important Kane’s move to FC Bayern was. It was a transfer out of his comfort zone and into a new league.
“The move to Bayern did you so much good. But not just because you finally won the titles you weren’t able to win at Tottenham. You just needed that challenge, right? The leap to the next level. The level you’ve reached is unbelievable,” Dier gushed.
He continued: “Not that I’m surprised. When I think back, there were already those ‘wow’ moments with you back then when I thought, ‘Yeah, this kid is going to be one of the all-time greats!’ But what has always impressed me the most was your consistency.”
Dier concluded his speech, by the way, with the hope that Kane can win yet another title: “Harry, you’ve earned all these achievements. The Golden Shoe, now Footballer of the Year. And hopefully the Ballon d’Or in two months.”
