It’s no longer a secret that FC Bayern has been flirting with Jonathan Tah for some time. The centre-back played a key role in Bayer Leverkusen’s success last season. But that is not the only reason why he has aroused Munich’s interest.
Jonathan Tah is currently the hottest candidate for FC Bayern’s first summer transfer. According to Sky, a verbal agreement has already been reached with the 28-year-old centre-back. According to this information, Tah’s transfer only depends on whether Bayern bosses can reach an agreement with Leverkusen regarding the transfer fee.
The pay-TV channel has now also found out why exactly Tah is to strengthen the German record champions‘ central defence. According to the report, Bayern are actually looking for a left-footed centre-back, but due to the market situation, it appears that no suitable player is available at a reasonable price. An interesting candidate such as Alessandro Bastoni is too expensive for FCB with a rumoured transfer fee of 50 to 60 million euros.
Tah can play as a left-sided centre-back
Although Tah is right-footed, he can also play as a left-sided centre-back. With his contract only running until 2025, he would also be available for a relatively moderate price of 20 to 30 million euros. Despite the agreement with Bayern, however, a transfer is still not certain, as Tah is being advised by Pini Zahavi.
The consultant was already involved in preventing Benjamin Pavard from staying at FC Bayern last summer. The Frenchman moved to Inter Milan shortly before the end of the transfer window. Munich had actually tried to keep the defensive all-rounder, but ultimately had to let him go. Sporting director Max Eberl and sporting director Christoph Freund can therefore prepare themselves for tough negotiations.
