FC Bayern embarrassed themselves in a 3:2 defeat in Heidenheim. They already have to face Arsenal FC in the Champions League on Tuesday. Will coach Thomas Tuchel still be sitting on the bench? The Bayern bosses are giving him a job guarantee.
After the 3:2 defeat at 1. FC Heidenheim, the bosses of FC Bayern have given Thomas Tuchel a job guarantee – at least for the next few weeks.
Sporting director Max Eberl said after the game on Sky when asked whether they were now thinking about releasing Tuchel prematurely: „No, I didn’t have that thought. It’s not always just a coaching problem.“
However, he was referring to the first leg against Arsenal. As for Tuchel staying until the end of the season, Eberl said: „I can’t answer that conclusively right now.“
Sporting director Christoph Freund also gave Tuchel a job guarantee on Sky: „Yes, 100 per cent!“ he replied to the question of whether Tuchel would stay on.
Freund: „That is unacceptable“
Looking ahead to the game in London, the Austrian explained: „We have a very, very important game in three days‘ time.“ When asked whether Tuchel was still his man of confidence, Freund said: „Yes, that’s what we decided. We just have to make sure that we don’t put in performances like that again.“
He said of Tuchel’s work: „Thomas tries everything to get the energy in. Of course, he also scrutinises himself: What can we change? What’s the problem? Everyone has to work on themselves now.“
Freund held the players responsible in particular: „That’s not acceptable! Everyone has to look at themselves.“
Referring to the previous 2-0 home defeat against Borussia Dortmund, Freund said: „That was twice in the space of a week. That’s really madness!“
