Criticising Bayern bosses: „What makes them choose Tuchel?“

The reasons behind the crisis at FC Bayern are complex. Lothar Matthäus sees the poor mood as the main reason. The record international criticises the bosses‘ decision to appoint Thomas Tuchel as coach.

Lothar Matthäus recognises the bad mood as a trigger for the ongoing misery at FC Bayern. In an interview with Sport BILD, he said: „The atmosphere at Bayern hasn’t been right for a year. It’s not just down to Thomas Tuchel, but the decisions that have been made in general. You have to question: How did the people in charge even come to choose Tuchel as coach?“

The record international not only criticises the decision-making process in the coaching position. He also sees a need to catch up in terms of player material. He believes that „more attention needs to be paid to personality again when signing new players. It’s about the ‚Mia san mia‘, how professionals live the club“. It is important to the 63-year-old „that they have Bayern in their hearts and that you don’t get the feeling that they only want to play for the club for financial reasons.“

Could Julian Nagelsmann lighten the mood at FC Bayern?

Matthäus suggests Julian Nagelsmann as Tuchel’s successor in order to put things right at FCB: „My favourite is Julian Nagelsmann because he is from Munich, he has his family here.“ Apparently, however, not everyone at the club is convinced of a comeback.

„At Bayern Munich, you need a few advocates to push the deal through. If everyone was in favour now, Julian Nagelsmann would probably be in the office tomorrow. But he’s not. That’s why there are probably one or two people who aren’t in favour,“ the Bayern legend surmises. According to the 1990 world champion, he seems to know who exactly is against signing the current national coach. However, he did not want to divulge this information.
