Christian Streich’s departure from SC Freiburg has the entire Bundesliga concerned. An FC Bayern coach has also been mentioned as a possible successor.
Not only will Thomas Tuchel be leaving FC Bayern in the summer, but his assistant coach Zsolt Löw will also be leaving Munich after this season.
However, the Hungarian apparently has faint hopes of a job with another Bundesliga club. BILD names Löw as a possible candidate to succeed Christian Streich at SC Freiburg. The cult coach announced on Monday that he would be leaving in the summer after twelve years as Freiburg coach.
Löw last firmly at Tuchel’s side
Löw and SC have reportedly been in contact from time to time in the past. However, this would be Löw’s first stint as head coach. The 44-year-old has been working alongside Tuchel for several years now, also supporting him at PSG and Chelsea FC. Previously, the former Bundesliga professional was assistant coach at Liefering, Salzburg and Leipzig.
Other names being considered for the job in Freiburg include Fabian Hürzeler (FC St. Pauli), Lukas Kwasniok (SC Paderborn) and the former coach of Union Berlin, Urs Fischer.
However, according to the latest reports, the top favourite to succeed Streich is long-time Freiburg captain Julian Schuster, who is currently working as a liaison coach between the professional and youth teams at the Baden club.
