FC Bayern is fighting for Alphonso Davies. While there have been many indications of a departure in the summer, sporting director Christoph Freund has now given a positive update on the Davies case.
Munich have been working on a contract extension for Alphonso Davies for almost a year now. While there has been radio silence between Bayern and the player’s side in recent weeks, there is now movement in the contract poker again.
The pay-TV channel Sky recently reported that sporting director Max Eberl wants to make a new approach for Davies. According to the report, further talks are to take place this week. According to sporting director Christoph Freund, the two parties have returned to the negotiating table.
„Phonzie feels very comfortable in Munich“
Freund gave a positive update on Davies on Tuesday: „There are talks and the discussions are good and open. And then we’ll see how it turns out in the next few weeks,“ he explained on the sidelines of the Bayern U19 Youth League match.
According to the Austrian, it is „not unlikely“ that the 23-year-old will extend his contract with the German record champions: „Phonzie feels very comfortable in Munich and loves playing for FC Bayern. I’m not negative at all,“ said Freund.
Davies has been heavily linked with a move to Real Madrid for months.
According to Sky, the extension is mainly about financial aspects. The left-back is said to be demanding an annual salary of just under 20 million euros. Munich’s pain threshold is 13-14 million euros.
According to reports, the Bayern bosses are pushing for a quick decision and want to have clarity on Davies by June at the latest. Should there be no extension, FCB will push for a sale. Davies‘ contract expires in the summer of 2025.
