National coach Julian Nagelsmann nominates Bayern jewel Aleksandar Pavlovic for the German senior national team for the first time. Two former Bayern stars had previously spoken out against the move.
Now the time has come: Aleksandar Pavlovic from FC Bayern has been nominated for the German senior national team for the first time , according to consistent media reports. It is the next chapter in a meteoric rise. The 19-year-old has worked his way into the Bayern starting eleven in central midfield. After just 17 competitive appearances for the Bayern professionals, he has now been called up for the DFB team by national coach Julian Nagelsmann.
According to two former Bayern stars, however, this move comes too soon. Lothar Matthäus and Mario Basler had previously spoken out clearly against Pavlovic’s nomination for the national team at this time.
Pavlovic had „played superbly recently, you have to recognise that“, Matthäus wrote in his column for Sky, „but you shouldn’t turn the boy’s head“.
Basler: „I don’t want to hear that“
Nagelsmann shouldn’t call Pavlovic up to the national team just yet, according to the record international: „I don’t think he’s a candidate for the national team just yet. There is no need for him in the centre of midfield,“ Matthäus continued.
According to Matthäus, there are enough other players in the DFB team for the centre of midfield: „With returnee Toni Kroos, captain Ilkay Gündogan, Leon Goretzka and Pascal Groß, there are enough candidates to play in the six or eight position.“
Basler also rejected the possibility of Pavlovic being called up for the home European Championship. „I don’t want to hear that you’re already taking a player like that to the European Championships. So please don’t,“ said the 1996 European champion in his podcast „Basler ballert“.
basler believes that FC Bayern’s home-grown talent would be „happy“ to get a taste of the national team after the finals.
