With Jürgen Klopp’s imminent departure from Liverpool, speculation about his successor is intensifying. Now a new name is coming to the fore: Rúben Amorim.
According to Football Insider, the young, successful coach Amorim from Sporting Lisbon is now at the top of the Reds‘ wish list. While many names have been bandied about, Amorim seems to have convinced Liverpool scouts after a successful observation phase.
The Portuguese has achieved remarkable success with Sporting Lisbon and was recently named coach of the month in his home country.
This could prove to be advantageous for FC Bayern. Favourite candidate Xabi Alonso of Bayer Leverkusen has also been linked with the Klopp succession. However, his favoured option appears to be a move to the German record champions, although he could also consider extending his contract at Leverkusen.
Liverpool’s focus on Amorim could clear the way for Bayern to sign Alonso without major competition.
De Zerbi also a topic in Liverpool and Munich
The search for a new coach is proving to be a complex endeavour for both clubs. Liverpool are conducting additional analyses before holding official talks with Amorim. The legacy of Klopp’s success weighs heavily for future coaches.
Bayern, on the other hand, are facing a sporting upheaval after a chaotic and disappointing season. The Munich club would like to lure Alonso away from Leverkusen, who could potentially win the league title with the Werkself this season.
The Spaniard already made an impression as a player in Munich. He made a total of 79 appearances for the German record champions before ending his career in the summer of 2017.
In addition to Amorim and Alonso, Roberto De Zerbi, currently coach at Brighton, is also valued by Liverpool. Bayern are also rumoured to be interested in the Italian. However, it currently appears that both the Reds and Munich have another top candidate.
