Zinédine Zidane is currently one of the hottest names on the coaching market. The legendary French footballer and coach has now given an insight into his thoughts on his professional future. His statements have sparked interest and speculation about a possible return to the coaching bench.
At an event to present a documentary film about Marcelo Lippi, Zidane spoke about his professional future. „A future in Italy? Why not, anything can happen. At the moment I’m doing other things, but we’ll see – I’d definitely like to return to the bench,“ Zidane told Sky Italia.
Zidane’s connection to Italy and Juventus in particular is deeply rooted. Between 1996 and 2001, he played for the Old Lady under iconic coach Marcelo Lippi. Lippi himself played an important role in Zidane’s career. „He was my coach, above all he brought me to Juve. He was the first to believe in me and let me play, because in the end it wasn’t easy for him,“ Zidane recalled of his formative years in Turin.
Zidane would be the „B“ solution in Munich
In addition to Italy, Zidane has also been linked with FC Bayern Munich. A close confidant of the Frenchman commented on Munich’s chances of signing Zidane: „Zinedine sees FC Bayern like Real Madrid: an institution as a club with a huge past and great working conditions.“ Those responsible at the Munich club could also imagine taking on the former Real Madrid coach. However, Xabi Alonso from Bayer Leverkusen is still considered the absolute favourite.
Zidane’s comments leave plenty of room for speculation and hope among fans and clubs. His return to the coaching bench would undoubtedly be an enrichment for football, whether in Italy, Germany or elsewhere.
