FC Bayern will face RB Leipzig at home in Saturday night’s top match. The record champions are under a bit of pressure going into the game against the Red Bulls, as they’ve recently recorded two consecutive draws.
That wasn’t the only problem, though, as they conceded goals extremely early in both games—in Augsburg after just over eight seconds, and in Stavanger after about a minute. That’s obviously not what they had in mind.
At the press conference ahead of the match against RB Leipzig, Vincent Kompany noted that the team had clearly addressed these issues recently, but he also feels that Bayern isn’t too far off from its top form.
Kompany is looking forward to the big match
Ahead of the big match against RB Leipzig—in which FC Bayern has the chance to jump to first place—the Belgian expressed great anticipation and explained that his team has responded well even after weaker performances in the past.
“We’ve usually responded well. But we also can’t forget what went well. We took 50 shots in two games—we want to keep that up. Mentality is important; we know that—we’ve often bounced back well from difficult situations,” Kompany told Sky.

He continued: “It’s clear that we didn’t do everything right, and that’s not enough to win games in the Bundesliga. But today is a new day, and the field is in perfect condition.”
The early goals conceded were still a topic of discussion in the aftermath of the match against Viking. “It’s always better not to be playing catch-up. We’ve addressed that. But aside from the goals conceded, it’s always about putting in the best performance possible. We’re now in a phase where we have to shift our focus back to the next game right away,” said Kompany. So concentration from the very start is absolutely essential.
