FC Bayern could be active on the transfer market once again this winter. Although the Munich club is generally well-positioned defensively, club officials are apparently considering a high-profile addition. The focus is on a familiar face: Jules Koundé of FC Barcelona.
As transfer expert Ekrem Konur reports, the French national team player is said to be at the very top of the German record champions’ wish list for the upcoming winter transfer window.
What’s particularly interesting is the reasoning behind the alleged interest. According to reports, Bayern officials see Koundé as a player whose versatility would make him an excellent fit for Vincent Kompany’s tactical approach.
Bayern sees Koundé as the ideal reinforcement for Kompany
The 27-year-old has been one of the established defenders in top-tier European soccer for years. At FC Barcelona, Koundé primarily plays as a right back, but he can also play in central defense without any issues.
It is precisely this flexibility that apparently makes the Frenchman particularly interesting to the Munich club.
Kompany relies on players in his defense who can take on different roles. Especially with his attack-oriented system, speed, strength in one-on-one situations, and technical ability are essential.
Koundé possesses many of these qualities. In addition, the French national team player has plenty of experience at the top international level.
It’s no secret that Bayern has been looking to strengthen its right side of the defense. As early as this past summer, there was repeated speculation about potential new signings for this position.
With Koundé, however, the record champions would be aiming for a top-tier solution.
A departure from Barça this winter? Many questions remain

It remains to be seen whether a transfer is actually realistic. Koundé is part of FC Barcelona’s core group of established players and would certainly not be a cheap signing for Bayern.
As early as late August, there was speculation about a possible change in the Catalans’ defense. At the time, there were reports suggesting that coach Hansi Flick might be open to the Frenchman leaving.
However, no concrete negotiations between Bayern and Barcelona have been reported so far. There is also currently no reliable information regarding a potential transfer fee.
Accordingly, Konur’s report should initially be classified as a transfer rumor.
Will Koundé be a candidate in the winter transfer window?
For Munich, signing the Frenchman could still make perfect sense. With his experience, flexibility, and ability to build play, Koundé would create additional options for the defense.
In addition, Kompany could use a player like this to rotate him between right back and center back.
The key question, however, is likely whether FC Barcelona would even be willing to let a player of this caliber go in the middle of the season.
