FC Bayern further trimmed its roster last summer, sending several players out on loan in the process. Three players are currently under contract with other clubs—and in all cases, there is an option to buy.
Arijon Ibrahimovic, Felipe Chávez, and Bryan Zaragoza are not just fighting for playing time. For the trio, it’s also about proving themselves for a long-term future at their current clubs—or possibly even a return to the German record champions.
Of particular interest: In Chávez’s case, Bayern has secured an additional safeguard in the form of a buyback clause. With Zaragoza, on the other hand, there are strong indications that the Munich club is hoping for a permanent departure.
Ibrahimovic off to a good start in Augsburg
Arijon Ibrahimovic was initially touted this summer as a potential backup for Luis Díaz. Ultimately, however, Vincent Kompany decided to let the 20-year-old gain more playing experience at another Bundesliga club.
FC Augsburg secured an option to buy for eight million euros as part of the loan deal. Ibrahimovic made a strong debut, scoring immediately in his first match, a 4-1 win over Eintracht Frankfurt.
After that, his progress was less straightforward. Following a weaker performance against Bayer Leverkusen, he sat on the bench for the entire 90 minutes of the 2-3 loss to Werder Bremen. Ibrahimovic is currently on the road with the German U21 team.
Felipe Chávez’s situation is even more challenging. The 19-year-old was loaned to 1. FC Magdeburg, but has primarily been used as a substitute there so far. His late arrival at the second-division club made his start even more difficult.
Magdeburg holds a purchase option in the mid-single-digit millions range. At the same time, Bayern has secured a buyback option. This means that if the technically gifted midfielder continues to develop positively, the Munich club will retain control.
Zaragoza is said to be trying to earn a permanent transfer
For Bryan Zaragoza, however, signs have long pointed toward a parting of ways. After no permanent buyer could be found this summer, the Spaniard was sent out on another loan—this time to Espanyol Barcelona.
The LaLiga club can sign Zaragoza permanently for eight million euros. The purchase option is set to take effect if the team avoids relegation and he receives sufficient playing time.
On the field, the 25-year-old is still waiting for his breakthrough. In the recent 1-3 loss to FC Elche, Zaragoza started for the first time, but failed to contribute to a goal. So far this season, he is still waiting for his first goal or assist.
The coming months will therefore be decisive for all three Bayern loan players. While Ibrahimovic and, in particular, Chávez could still have a future in Munich if they develop accordingly, a permanent departure from Zaragoza continues to seem like the preferred scenario.
