The German national team is playing against the Netherlands in Amsterdam today, Thursday. The DFB team wants to make a statement and secure a victory right off the bat under new head coach Jürgen Klopp.
Several Bayern stars could also play a key role in this. When selecting the roster, Klopp made a unique decision: he named two separate squads. After two of the four international matches, he plans to rotate the lineup extensively.
Serge Gnabry and Jamal Musiala, however, will remain with Klopp and the team for the entire duration. Both need to find their rhythm, which they can build up much more effectively in regular team training than in individual training at FC Bayern.
Klopp is clearly counting on Bayern stars
It’s becoming increasingly clear which stars will take the field this Thursday at 8:45 p.m. when the match kicks off in the Netherlands.
According to a BILD report, the final decisions regarding the starting lineup have been made. It was already clear beforehand that Ajax goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen would start in goal.
According to the report, Klopp is also counting on Bayern pros in the starting lineup. In the back four, Jonathan Tah and Nathaniel Brown are expected to start. Joshua Kimmich will be a fixture in central midfield. And Jamal Musiala is set to start in the playmaker role. So there’s definitely a Bayern-heavy lineup.
Although Gnabry is on the roster, he recently made only a brief comeback with the record champions. He’ll be an option off the bench and will rack up minutes again through substitute appearances.
It’s clear that Klopp’s first few games will still feel very much like a trial run. It’s no coincidence that the large squad was named in this way—the national team coach wants to test a lot of things. Nevertheless, it’s a positive sign for the Bayern quartet to be part of the squad right from their debut.
