FC Bayern would invest 100 million euros or more again for a top-tier target. But which superstar could be a candidate?
FC Bayern has been relatively restrained in the transfer market lately. That doesn’t mean, however, that the days of mega-transfers in Munich are over. According to information from BILD’s soccer editor-in-chief Christian Falk, club officials would still be willing to invest 100 million euros—or even more—for a top-tier target.
The prerequisite: There must be a genuine need for that specific position, and the coaching staff must be fully convinced of the player’s abilities. Harry Kane serves as a blueprint. Bayern would also have been willing to dig deep into their pockets for Florian Wirtz in 2025.
But who could be the next 100-million-star? Here are five players who, based on their quality, market value, or position, would generally fit into this category.
From Haaland to Wirtz: These stars are conceivable
Kenan Yildiz: With him, Bayern would come full circle. The Turkish international was trained at the Bayern campus for nine years but left Munich on a free transfer for Juventus in 2022. In Turin, Yildiz developed into a top international player. From today’s perspective, letting him go was a bitter mistake. Bringing him back would be correspondingly expensive, especially since Juventus is planning for the long term with its attacking star and has signed him to a contract through 2030. From a sporting standpoint, Yildiz would be extremely interesting with his strengths in the attacking midfield and on the left wing.
Désiré Doué: The Frenchman was also previously on Bayern’s radar. In 2024, Munich and Paris Saint-Germain engaged in an intense bidding war for Doué; in the end, the attacking player opted for PSG. His market value now stands at around 120 million euros. His situation could become particularly interesting due to the fierce competition in Paris. Should Doué ever seek a new challenge, Bayern would certainly be interested again.
Florian Wirtz: Wirtz remains the most obvious candidate. Bayern was determined to sign the German national team player in 2025 and was prepared to invest around 100 million euros. Wirtz opted instead for Liverpool, where he has so far been unable to replicate his performances from his time at Leverkusen. His market value now stands at around 100 million euros. That’s precisely why he could become an attractive prospect again at some point—provided Liverpool is willing to offer a significant discount. The major catch: With Jamal Musiala and Michael Olise, Bayern now has two top-tier players in exactly the positions where Wirtz is at his strongest.
Erling Haaland: The most spectacular name—and, in fact, already a topic of discussion. As TEAMtalk reports, Bayern is considering the 26-year-old as a potential long-term successor to Kane. However, a transfer is not expected to become a realistic possibility until 2029 or 2030 at the earliest. With a market value of around 220 million euros, Haaland is in a league of his own financially. Should Kane extend his contract as planned, Bayern could begin preparing for his long-term succession. Haaland would be the most high-profile solution—though his contract with Man City runs through 2034.
Achraf Hakimi: Does it even have to be an offensive player? Hakimi has been one of the world’s best right-backs for years and was already on Bayern’s radar during his time at Dortmund. The 27-year-old has a market value of around 80 million euros and is under contract with PSG through 2029. Bayern may eventually need reinforcements on the right side of the defense.
The list also highlights the fundamental problem with Bayern’s next mega-transfer: The squad is already stacked with star players on offense. Musiala and Olise are expected to shape the team in the long term, Kane is set to extend his contract, and Díaz also has a long-term deal.
That is precisely why Bayern may not necessarily be looking for another big name. The crucial question will rather be where a real gap opens up in the coming years. If it arises up front, Haaland would be the dream candidate. If reinforcements are needed in the attacking midfield, Yildiz or Doué would be intriguing options. Wirtz would remain the top German choice, while Hakimi would represent a blockbuster transfer on the defensive side.
The money is apparently there. For Bayern, the main question now is which player will eventually be important enough to warrant spending it.
