At FC Bayern, talks about a contract extension with Harry Kane are in full swing. Although the 33-year-old could remain in Munich for several more years, club officials are apparently already thinking about the time after that—and have their eyes on a spectacular name.
According to information from TEAMtalk, Erling Haaland is among the candidates to succeed Kane in the long term. The Munich club is reportedly considering bringing the Manchester City superstar back to Germany in 2029 or 2030.
A short-term transfer of the 26-year-old is therefore explicitly off the table. Rather, the plan is said to hinge on Kane extending his current contract with FC Bayern—which runs through 2027—once again, as expected.
CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen recently hinted that a decision could be reached soon in the talks with the England national team captain. Accordingly, Bayern hopes to finalize the extension within the next three weeks.
Haaland is reportedly at the top of Bayern’s list
Should Kane sign a new contract through 2029 or even 2030, the Munich club would have ample time to prepare for his long-term succession. According to TEAMtalk, club officials want to explore early on whether Haaland could, in principle, envision taking over the Englishman’s role afterward.
The former Dortmund player is said to be “at the very top of the list.” Haaland knows the Bundesliga inside and out: He played for BVB from January 2020 to the summer of 2022 before moving to Manchester City, where he ultimately developed into one of the best center forwards in the world.

A potential transfer, however, would face enormous hurdles. Haaland is still under a long-term contract with the Sky Blues through 2034. Should he actually leave Manchester in a few years, the 55-time Norwegian international is also said to prefer a move to Spain. Real Madrid and FC Barcelona, in particular, have been repeatedly linked with him for quite some time.
For Bayern, therefore, the initial priority is apparently to gauge the striker’s general willingness to return to Germany. According to the report, club officials want to prepare for the “post-Kane era” as early as possible.
For now, a potential Haaland transfer is still a long way off. However, the mere fact that such considerations are being made shows the scale on which Bayern Munich is apparently thinking when it comes to eventually finding a successor for Kane.
